Sid Fleisher: "PORTAL"

The Artist

I am a builder, a gardener and a student of Art. I have been practicing Art seriously for about 12 years. I have worked as a woodworker, furniture builder, building renovator since the early 70’s. Drawing has always been, for me, a way of communicating ideas. Earlier this century I began to study and practice Art as a serious pursuit. I have taken a number of art classes and practice daily. My work is varied, as I seek more understanding of my own skills and the joy of materiality. Working in black and white I enjoy block printing and experimenting with varieties of graphite, charcoal, and inks. I also have done color work in pastel and acrylic. Including 3 dimensional (sculptural) objects in my painting is part of my building background. I recently have done a number of paintings on large sheets of plywood. I continue to experiment and learn and hope some day I will be looked at as an Artist.

The Mural

Not being comfortable working in public I decided to do my work in my own studio. The piece for the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is on a 4’ x 6’ sheet of plywood. It includes trim from a 100-year-old doorframe that was removed from a building in a renovation project. It is looking through a doorway or window into a somewhat fantasy garden-like world.
