Jade Warrick (TrashKiD): "Friendships in Uncommon Places"
The Artist
Originally from Los Angeles, Jade Warrick is a Capital Region based visual designer who focuses on art accessibility, global design, and using art to bring healing and wealth to communities; especially among communities of color. Some of Jade Warrick’s work explores ways to connect local stories and art into a communicative piece that in turn can bring equity and healing. Jade has experience as a sculptor, muralist, illustrator, and community organizer within the arts.
The Mural
Jade’s mural illustrates a recent Troy story, starring local entrepreneur Jamel Mosely as he stares, bewildered but lovingly at a duck. This is based on true events: on Jan. 9, Mosely found a stray duck near 7th Avenue and Middleburgh in Troy, and spent about an hour and a half keeping the duck out of the street and getting it to safety. The duck was eventually brought to a waterfowl rescue. Mosely documented the encounter on Facebook live.

In the days after the January 6th capitol riot, Jamel Mosely was surprised to find an out of place duck wandering the streets of his urban neighborhood. Artist Jade Warrick, a.k.a. trashkid, was one of his many social media followers who found joy watching Jamel's duck resuce story play out. When the Troy Farmer's Market asked Jade to design a mural in their new space, she chose to memorialize Jamel and his duck. In this interview Jade and Jamel tell HMM producer, Melissa Bromley, how it all went down.
